​Phil Lindberg 

Instructor

Phil enlisted in the USMC in 1968. Phil has been with Tombstone as a Founding Member since it opened in June 2013. Phil is certified 4-H Instructor in Pistol, Shotgun, and Hunter Safety and Outdoor Skills for children ages 8-18. He also is certified through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources as a Hunter's Safety instructor. Phil trained in NRA Basic Pistol, Personal Protection Inside and Outside the Home. He is NRA Pistol Instructor, Range Safety Officer, and Chief Range Safety officer. Phil is an Illinois Concealed Carry Instructor. Phil is a Life Member of the National Rifle Association and a member of the Illinois State Rifle Association. He is also a member of the United States Concealed Carry Association. Phil is available for One-on-One lessons at Tombstone. Please call him to make an appointment.

Joe Clements

Instructor

Joe is a U.S. Navy veteran. He has been with Tombstone for almost two years. Joe is certified in Rifle, Archery, and Hunter Safety and Outdoor Skills for children ages 8-18. He also is certified through the Illinois Department of Natural Resources as a Hunter's Safety instructor. Joe is NRA Basic Pistol and Range Safety Officer certified. Joe is also one of our three Utah Concealed Carry Instructors.  Joe is available for One-on-One lessons at Tombstone. Please call him to make an appointment.

J.D. Barter

Instructor/Founder

JD Barter is the full-time Range Manager at Tombstone Gun Range & Training Center, as well as one of our busiest instructors for our training group, Arsenal Tactical Concepts, LLS.  JD serves as Lead Instructor for many of the classes at Tombstone Training Center, and has received high accolades from many students since coming on board with us in August 2013.  

JD also gives private one-on-one instruction at our range and has helped many students quickly jump from amateur shooter to mid-level in a short period of time with his expertise and skill.JD is a retired federal law enforcement officer with 29 years of service.  He began his career in 1983 in the US Army Military Police Corps, where he was attached to NATO on the United States’ military representative to NATO’s protective services detail.  During this time, he experienced a terrorist car bombing of a NATO building (in 1985). After leaving the army, JD went to work for the United States Department of Justice in the Federal Bureau of Prisons.  He became an instructor for the Disturbance Control Team in 1993, which involved teaching riot control techniques to all staff.  He was a team leader for the Disturbance Control Team, as well.  After several years of teaching unarmed fighting techniques, he switched to firearms instruction in 2005.   He was trained to be a firearms instructor at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center. 

​After four years as a firearms instructor, he returned to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center to become a Lead Firearms Instructor.  After being appointed a Lead Firearms Instructor, he supervised the range at the United States Penitentiary in Marion, IL, training not only the staff, but also training with other federal agencies, including the FBI, DEA, US Marshalls, US Fish and Wildlife, US Forest Service, the VA police, and US Probation.  During this time, he also trained closely with the IL Secretary of State Police bomb squad and the SIU bomb squad.   He returned to the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center again for training to serve on the Armed Bus Team. JD has also been an instructor at John. A Logan College in the Adult Continuing Education program since 2000.

​ JD resides in Johnston City with his wife Danielle who is the Principle at Johnston City High School.  JD has two adult children Joel who is a service writer at Marion Ford Quicklane and Johnna who will graduate from John A Logan RN program in May of 2014.  JD is a active member at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Marion.  JD is also president of the local chapter of National Wild Turkey Federation Little Egypt Longbeards.  He is a avid outdoorsman who enjoys hunting, camping and hiking.  JD is also a amateur chef and has volunteered his skills to several local organizations.

David Kemp

Instructor/Founder

David began his police career in Decatur, IL as a patrolman in 1994 after graduating from the Illinois State Police Academy (for local law enforcement.)  He worked midnights during his four years in the patrol division, and was also assigned as a member of the Decatur Emergency Response Team (E.R.T.) in 1997.  David served over 70 high risk search warrants while assigned to the E.R.T. in a just over a one-year time period, as well as hostage/barricaded gunman scenarios.  
                                                                                                                  
David moved back to his hometown of Carterville, IL in 1998 after being hired by the Carbondale Police Department.   He continued to work in the patrol division and was assigned to Carbondale's Special Response Team (S.R.T.) on 2000.

David is a Patrol Sergeant with a local Southern Illinois Police Department, with 22 years of law enforcement experience.  He has served as a Firearms Instructor and SWAT Team Leader with 18 years of Tactical Team experience.  He has served hundreds of high risk warrants and has deployed on several hostage and barricaded gunman incidents. David is an NRA Certified Pistol Instructor
